Social Media Tool Kit

Companies and businesses are rapidly grasping this social media concept. Everyday, an organization pops up in my virtual world and seeks to lure me in with digital engagement and web satisfaction. Sometimes I surrender but other times I feel overwhelmed. The key strategy is moderation. The internet is so saturated that from the user perspective, we're left to determine where everyone fits in. If everyone tries to fit in, how do we fit in? Companies should strive for a healthy dose; a presence and not a dominance.

PANDORA Turns 30!

Happy Birthday to PANDORA. Last week the Danish beauty turned 30! She commemorated her special day with a 35-page story celebrating 30 exciting moments in her life. Let's review some of those iconic unforgettable moments:

1982: In a small jeweller’s shop in modest surroundings in Copenhagen, Denmark, Danish goldsmith Per Enevoldsen and his wife Winnie began the journey of what would one day become PANDORA.

In 1989, PANDORA founder Per Enevoldsen held a solid silver ring in his hand – the first piece of jewellery made at PANDORA’s own production facility in Thailand.

In 1989, PANDORA started its own jewellery production operation in Thailand with just a handful of employees. Today, PANDORA is the largest jewellery manufacturer in Thailand with 3,600 employees.

At the end of 1999, after several months of developing and testing various creative ideas, PANDORA’s first in-house jewellery designers, Lone Frandsen and Lisbeth Enø Larsen, created the PANDORA charm bracelet concept together with Kenneth Ramstrup, Head of Marketing & Sales.

In early 2000, Per Enevoldsen and his team were ready to launch the bracelet concept, but an internal competition had not produced that perfect name everyone had been hoping for.
A few hours before the deadline for printing new marketing materials, a girl who was helping out in the office after school suddenly said: ‘My mum and I think you should call it PANDORA!’
Instantly, they all knew this was the right choice – distinct, easy to remember, feminine and easily pronounceable in many different languages.
So that’s how PANDORA got its name.

In February 2000, the first ever PANDORA bracelet charms went on sale in Denmark. This included a perfect silver strawberry and 14 other charms, 10 of which are still part of our collection today.

In early 2000, less than two months after introducing the PANDORA charm bracelet concept to Danish retailers, Kenneth Ramstrup, Head of Marketing & Sales, and the sales team returned after the Easter break to learn that nearly all stores had sold out and were ready to repurchase.

In 2003, PANDORA established a presence in what is today the company’s single largest market, the USA. Four years later, on 1 November 2007, PANDORA USA co-founder Michael Lund Petersen and his team opened their first concept store in Charlotte, North Carolina.

In 2005, after entering North America, Australia and major European markets such as the UK and germany, PANDORA achieved the remarkable sales milestone of 5 million units in a year. One year later, that number had nearly doubled.

The first ever PANDORA concept store, all sparkling and white, opened its doors in Hamburg, germany in October 2006. Since then, it has been followed by 671 others around the world.

In 2009, PANDORA celebrated becoming one of the world’s three largest jewellery brands, measured by estimated retail value.

On a bright Tuesday morning, 5 October 2010, a brand new ticker symbol appeared on the NASDAQ OMX Copenhagen stock exchange for the first time – ‘PNDORA’.

PANDORA founder Per Enevoldsen had a dream that one day he would be able to travel the world and see a PANDORA store on every high street. Today, his dream has come true, and PANDORA jewellery is currently sold through over 10,500 points of sale in more than 65 countries across six continents.

PANDORA Heats Up the Scene

PANDORA can be found gracing many magazines in April. She will be featured in issues of ELLE (US), Marie Claire (US), FASHION (Canada) and Westfield Style (US).

ELLE magazine has featured two stackable rings as part of the “New Romantic’s Jewelry Guide,” targeting the consumer who is nostalgic, classic and ultra-feminine.

Marie Claire featured PANDORA’s leather cords in a “Best Western” editorial shopping spread.

FASHION magazine has featured stackable white gold and diamond rings as part of the “Fashion File” segment featuring “The List” of spring’s freshest jewelry pieces.

Finally, Westfield Style Shopping Guide has featured several of PANDORA’s stackable rings as “must-haves” for the spring.  In addition, the new dragonfly pendant is displayed in a spread highlighting whimsical floral fashion motifs—on point with PANDORA’s Floral Nostalgia theme for spring/summer.

This is just the beginning. PANDORA has big plans for Mother's Day and beyond!

Spring Sprang Sprung

Today is the first day of Spring and it finally feels like the sunshine is here to stay. With this gorgeous weather seeping into our lives, there's a number of things to get us out the house and into the world.
PANDORA recently returned from its first ever Unforgettable Cruise (March 8-12). If only I had the time and money to go!

Based on the facebook photos, it looks like the ladies who went had a great time. PANDORA seemed to enjoy it as well and will most likely return to the seas in the future for another full-fledged pampering stay, PANDORA-style.

Some perks:

Cruise guests received complimentary Cruise 2012 two-tone charms and stopped in Cozumel, Mexico for a day of exclusive and exhausting shopping. Sailing from Fort Lauderdale on Royal Caribbean's newly renovated "Liberty of the Seas" ship, they truly received the royal treatment fit for a queen. With Welcome and Farewell Cocktail Parties, I know I'll be saving my pennies for the next one!

This Just In!

News and photos of PANDORA's Spring/Summer 2012 Collection are slowly but surely surfacing. With the upcoming release of some new pieces, we must also bid farewell to some beloved charms as well. I was actually a tad upset to see some charms and rings discontinued...especially before I was able to purchase them. Collections are scheduled to hit stores in the coming weeks. In the meantime, I'll say goodbye to some of my favorite retired products. I hope they had good benefits packages...

These 14k Gold Cabochon Orange Moonstone Earring set was sure to light up this summer. I guess you snooze you lose.

I am getting this ring. If it's the last thing I do, I will find it. I have admired this since Christmas time and  I'm not letting this one get way just that easy!

This picture only shows one side, but I always thought this was the cutest charm. It's a picnic basket and on the other side, it has a wine bottle. That is completely adorable and extremely accurate for most people. I'm sad to see it leave but I guess PANDORA has to make room for other pasttime-related charms. Maybe I'll have a picnic and bring some wine in honor of this charm. Maybe I'll have some wine and skip the picnic.

As the new items are released, I'll begin to spotlight one bead each week. We can decide if they're keepers or sleepers. Until next time, stay charmed!

Last But Not Least...

Oscar buzz has finally died down. Just over a week ago, it dominated media outlets and people couldn’t get enough of the fashion, the nominees and the upsets.

Meryl Streep upset Viola Davis, winning the coveted award for Best Actress and stars like Melissa McCarthy (Bridesmaids), Emma Stone (The Help) and Berenice Bejo (The Artist) managed to upset viewers with their dress choices.

I know everyone needed a few days to recover from the Oscar overload so I gave you some time to ingest the masses’ opinions, but award season wouldn’t be complete if no one weighed in on the missed accessory opportunities. The cliché says “less is more,” but for some of our beloved actresses and nominees, a little more would have gone a long way.

Emma stone could have spared some of that bow(and red!) to better accessorize this ensemble. I suggest the Oxidized Silver Necklace with Bear Quartz. The amber hue would compliment the red and bring out the vibrant blue color in her eyes.

Bérénice Bejo was among the celebrities who underwhelmed last week. Her dress failed to accentuate any features and created a wide maternal look, much different from the Peppy style she rocked in The Artist. A simple pavé diamond necklace or even a simple bracelet or bangle could have lit this one up more.

PANDORA was actually on-site for the festivities leading up to the awards show. Like many companies and product lines, PANDORA, in collaboration with TMG International, hosted a gifting suite to the stars during Oscar weekend.
A gifting suite is a simple concept. Companies pay for hotel rooms during major celebrity events, i.e. award shows and celebrity charity events and literally give away the products in exchange for photographs of the visiting celebrities holding, wearing or using the products received. These unofficial endorsements aim to generate brand buzz and hopefully link it to the stars. We love our stars and we love to love what our stars love. The idea is truly brilliant.
At the TMG Pandora Jewelry Red Carpet Ready Suite, stars received complimentary facials, hair care, make-up and manicures, in addition to the fabulously personalized jewelry they built at the bracelet bar. I wish Ms. Stone and Ms. Bejo could have made a cameo; It would have made a world of difference!
